28-29 cm. Male : larger than other Pittas with an massive bill, greyish
heade with black crown-centre, nape and eyestripe, blue above and buffish
below. Female : base-colour of head warm buffish-brown, crown-centre
scaled, rufescent-brown above, blue lower rump and tail.

Very rare; threatened by human persecution and habitat loss. Recorded
from Phetchaburi (Kaeng Krachan NP); Ranong (Khong NaKha WS);
Surat Thani (Khao Sok NP, Khlong Sang WS); Nakhon Si Thammarat
(Khao Luang NP); Krabi (Khao Pra-Bang Khram WS, Khao Phanom
Bencha NP); Phatthalung/Trang/Songkhla/Satun (Khao Banthad WS);
SongKhla (Ton Nga Chang WS) and Narathiwat (Hala-Bala WS).
