Carnivorous, mainly fishes and scaventure. Mainstreams, juveniles nursing
in larger tributaries. Uncommon in the markets; smaller sizes are popular
in aquarium trade. Habitat lost and overfishing.

Large, broad head and snout; mouth wide with crescent patch of vomerine
tooth; dorsal and paired-fin tips greatly elongated in adults. Dorsum dull
grey; fins dusky, anal with black anterior tip. Attains 2.5 m.
