- A robust catfish with large head; mouth terminal, lower jaw more projected
and toothless in adults; barbels and gill rakers rudimentary or absent by
growth; 8-9 branched pelvic rays. Body pale grey without stripes; fins
dusky. Juveniles with truncate snout, seen from above; body olive hue.
Attains 2.5 m.
